Many people believe that they can build a successful home-based business. They have heard the amazing success stories, and want to believe it will be true for them. Legitimate money can be earned in a variety of ways, but unless you have a specific business idea, you should seek advice from a home-based business advisor. Significant income can be generated, but we must keep in mind that earning legitimate money from home is not a “get rich quick” form of money-making.

Over 3 million Google searches are conducted each month by those looking to earn money from home. You may have heard the success stories of people making lots of money; thousands of dollars (on auto-pilot) while lounging on the beach or asleep. In my opinion, most of those 3 million folks want to legitimately earn money from home, and deep inside know that it cannot be as easy as it’s frequently touted as being. The more steadied approach is the topic of this article.

The reality of these get-rich quick schemes is that they simply aren’t true, and many honest people are losing time, money, and trust in working from home. One can be easily tempted to think that it’s possible to make tons of money with a little work or within a short amount of time. All of us would like for this to be true, however, it is not. The realistic and legitimate way of organizing a home-based business will be discussed here. It may take four (4) years, or more to start earning legitimate income from home. Even with the tremendous growth of the internet, this is a fact that will more than likely not change. Yes, it takes time and effort to find the right home-based opportunity, develop a customer base and referral system.

Network marketing is a way to earn legitimate money by selling goods or services through your own efforts and the efforts of distributors in your sales force.

You may find yourself asking questions, such as these:

  2. What kind of online opportunities exist that I can do from home?
  3. Who can I find to answer my questions?
Working from home and earning legitimate money from online businesses require that you have the same dedication and persistence that a brick and mortar business owner would exhibit.

One reference guide that you want to have in your possession is a neat book entitled, “The New Conceptual Selling” written by Stephen Heiman and Diane Sanchez; this book is published by Time Warner. The book was written for sales professionals of any industry and teaches how to sponsor others. The consultative (sometimes called ‘attraction’) approach to enlisting your prospects as either a customer or business team member requires a two-step interview. The first contact with your prospect can be from a list of “leads” that have requested information on a home-based opportunity. The names, phone numbers, and emails of these prospects are purchased, and each prospect is called or emailed with your invitation to receive a “complimentary consultation” to explore the possibilities you, as the marketer, have to offer.

A preferred way of connecting with a new prospect is that they find you through your advertising or marketing efforts…online or offline. Your website will have an opt-in box for them to contact you; or from a classified ad in a business journal in your area. Based on a few questions regarding their commitment of time, money and talent, the marketer can rather quickly “sort” these prospects to find the serious-minded potential of those that will benefit from more of your time. This is generally a friendly five (5) minute call.

The second step is the consultation that is more in-depth and usually lasting at least thirty (30) minutes. This is when you listen to their goals and assist them in evaluating what business direction is viable for them. Keep in mind, that with this step, it may be concluded that you do not have a “good fit” for them in your product and/or services. Point them in the right direction then! However, if they want to learn more, or agree to continue searching options with you, you may have found a valuable team member. It is a win—win conclusion. There should be no arm twisting…hard sell tactics that will likely cause that new team member leave as quickly as they were signed up.

Knowing there are people out there who hope to lure you into giving them your money based on wild promises of instant success, it becomes clear the services of an experienced consultant can be invaluable. Even if you find a legitimate company, there will be a learning curve while you develop your business. You can earn legitimate money from home, but taking time to organizing and educating yourself is crucial to your success.

A consultant can significantly shorten the learning curve. It might take you years and years (including many failed attempts) to even begin generating a significant income when you try to implement a business plan on your own.
